The New Modern Wing

Dudes8161TisF visits the Fabulous new Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Renzo Piano, the new Modern Wing opened in May 2009.  The building showcases the Art Institute’s renowned collection of modern and contemporary art.  The new wing comprises galleries for modern and contemporary painting and sculpture, photography, film and video, and architecture and design as well as an outdoor sculpture terrace. The extraordinary scope and quality of these collections is stunning and each is displayed more comprehensively than ever before.  Now a decade in the making, this 264,000 square-foot building makes the Art Institute the second largest art museum in the United States.  The opening of the Modern Wing has allowed the Art Institute to take its rightful place as one of the world’s great collections of modern and contemporary art.  The Modern Wing also includes several public spaces that are accessible and free of charge to all visitors as an extension of Chicago’s Millennium Park.

The new Modern Wing is truly Fabulous!

Small2-1TisF was strolling down Saint Laurent Boulevard in Montreal, Canada and found this Fabulous Gallery.

Ctrl lab

In the fall of 2003, Shermine Sawalha and Eduardo Menz met in the dark basements of Concordia University creating electronic arts. Four fun-filled years later, they sought out a space that could be used by young artists without bias to exhibit work in a professional context.  Established in 2007, Ctrl lab is an artist run gallery dedicated to the promotion and support of art that addresses contemporary issues and reflects, stimulates and/or challenges our cultural, social and individual values told through the eyes, hands and hearts of emerging Montreal artists.

Constance K.

FabulousConstance

TisF spends Five Fabulous Minutes with Photographer Constance K.

Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Constance received her first camera at the age of 16 from her father.  Her father’s father was a portrait photographer back in the “old country.” Fascinated by her family’s history, Constance has spent a great deal capturing the real human emotion of those who have left an impression on the young photographer. Her ability to connect with her subjects through her lens allows her to express the raw feeling of what and who she shoots.  Capturing not only a portrait but also telling a story.
