Ctrl lab

In the fall of 2003, Shermine Sawalha and Eduardo Menz met in the dark basements of Concordia University creating electronic arts. Four fun-filled years later, they sought out a space that could be used by young artists without bias to exhibit work in a professional context.  Established in 2007, Ctrl lab is an artist run gallery dedicated to the promotion and support of art that addresses contemporary issues and reflects, stimulates and/or challenges our cultural, social and individual values told through the eyes, hands and hearts of emerging Montreal artists.

Through past events, Ctrl lab has become a vibrant venue for video, photography, sculpture, painting, dance, theatre and private events. Our second floor space located on St. Laurent Boulevard allows for a unique and intimate environment for its guests and participants.  Rather than seeking out exhibits, Ctrl lab opens its door and floor to young artists and curators in search of a space to present solo or group shows through low rental fees.  While allowing such openness and non-discrimination of exhibition, Ctrl lab hopes to create a continuous dialogue within the diverse artistic and local communities of Montreal.

TisF asked Shermine to answer our Fabulous Questionaire and here is what she had to say...

What is your idea of Fabulous?
SS: How tiny we all are and how we think so big of to prove that we are not.

Who is the most Fabulous person you know?
SS: Fabolous for being so fabulous in TM his name. And yes it is 'miss pelled'

Which Fabulous word do you use most?
SS: NO WAYYYY!!!

What is your greatest (most Fabulous) extravagance?
SS: Hahahaha... funny question.

Where would you like or prefer to live your Fabulous life?
SS: In a submarine. But not the yellow one.

What do you consider your greatest (most Fabulous) achievement?
SS: Meeting and connecting people all over the world. Give me a high five Chicago!!!! Wow!

What is your (Fabulous) motto?
SS: -Silence-
