Dimitris Michalaros

DimitrisTisF Discovers the Art of Dimitris Michalaros.

Dimitris Michalaros is a Visual Artist who lives and works in Chicago, USA, and Megara, Greece.  Michalaros' artwork comprises mostly kinetic sculptures that address the permeable relationships between object and space, image and sound.  His interest in the identification of the sound into a visual information in an almost synaesthetic sense, which offers to his pieces a means of translating these interactions into a system.  Moving image becomes a form in which the visual interacts with the sonic.  His artwork challenges the perceived ephemerality of technology traditionally contrasted with the timelessness of art.

Michalaros' earliest work consisted of the elements in his constructions which functioned as organs which all together constitute self-contained organisms. Reconfigured, manipulated technological instruments are left exposed.  These exposures challenge the standard expectations of technology, emphasizing less the harmony than the collision and ensuing conversation between materials.
