Danny Boome

DANNY-BOOME150TisF Spends Five Fabulous Minutes with Danny Boome.

Dynamic young chef Danny Boome brings his passion for food and culinary exploration to America with fresh perspectives and unique quick-fix ideas. In his new Food Network series, Rescue Chef, everyday cooks experiencing personal culinary obstacles welcome Boome into their homes to save the day. This energetic "Rescue Chef" offers viewers creative culinary solutions and a true understanding of the basics necessary to guarantee continued success in the kitchen. From semi-professional hockey to au pair, this "Rescue Chef" has explored many trades but always had a passion for cooking.

Boome started his culinary training in 1999 as a cook in Switzerland doubling up as an au pair for a local family. He later moved to Canada and trained at the acclaimed West Wind Inn. To finalize his training, Boome attended the Grange Cookery School in England. His first post as a young chef was at the fashionable Asia de Cuba restaurant in St. Martins Lane London Hotel, which ignited his passion for fusion cookery.

With years of training and experience under his belt, Boome then packed his bags to travel throughout mainland Europe and North America. While exploring his culinary passions and curiosity for the origins of food and drink, Boome's desire to inspire (not intimidate) everyday cooks was born. He wanted to share his practical, no-fuss recipes and techniques with everyday cooks around the world.

Boome launched his television career in 2004 on UKTV Food's co-production Wild and Fresh where he traveled across Canada seeking out the best home-grown delights each province had to offer. He would then return his host's hospitality by taking inspiration from traditional dishes and cooking up a delicious meal with a contemporary twist!

In 2005, Boome explored his childhood holiday destination at the North Norfolk coastline in the UKTV Food and Anglia Television production of Norfolk's Coastal Kitchen/Danny by the Sea. This show followed Boome as he retraced his steps around this memorable location where his passion for food and fresh produce began. With the success of Norfolk's Coastal Kitchen, Boome launched a series in January 2006 called Coastal Kitchen continuing his quest to uncover fresh ingredients and unique recipes, which still runs on Anglia Television and Discovery Channel. In 2006 and 2007, Boome was a regional host and judge on UKTV Food's program Local Food Heroes which spotlighted local purveyors from across England.

Boome further increased his profile with a regular spot on Summer This Morning on ITV and has also gained credits on Children's BBC, UKTV Sport and UKTV Good Food Live. Additionally he has appeared at the Autumn Ideal Home Show and has been featured in high-profile advertisements.

An advocate for educating children, parents, and teachers on healthy eating, Boome promotes the importance of understanding the production chain that delivers to the kitchen table. He runs a cooking school featuring courses for novice cooks as well as experienced chefs.

TisF recently caught up with this Fabulous Chef...

What is your idea of Fabulous?
DB: A Fun pursuit of all that is different, not knowing what to expect from a situation or a product, and being totally un-pretentiously wowed!

Who is the most Fabulous person you know?
DB:
My Parents, still blissfully in love after 40 years, the best of friends and have mastered the art of compromise.

Which Fabulous word do you use most?

DB: Thingy-me-bob, doodar or watch-ma-call-it, I have the worst memory so you will often hear me fill in the blank with one of those, or one of my encrypted English slang words, which does leave my America friends looking rather perplexed!

What is your greatest (most Fabulous) extravagance?
DB: Ted Baker Suits, Once in a while I will treat myself to a well cut and very stylish suit, Ted's Shirts and Suits fit me like a glove.

Where would you like or prefer to live your Fabulous life?
DB: Mountains in the Winter (Huge Ski Bum!) NYC (for Work) Chicago (to hang out) and a beach (to chill out)

What do you consider your greatest (most Fabulous) achievement?
DB: Just managing to be where I am today, is my biggest achievement, I am dyslexic, and was written off from an early age at school, that's where I learnt to diversify my skills, at school I was no good at English or Math, so I worked hard at Art and Gym. I became a Pro Hockey player @ 17, got injured and bored so tried to make a go of sports marketing and Advertising, I couldn't settle, so I ran away from life and became a Manny in the Swiss Alps, that's where I found my love for Food and teaching kids. 6 years later I have had 6 seasons of 5 different show in 3 different country's, I am working on 3 different books, have launched a Cooking School in the US, just about to embark on a cooking tour "Home Cooking Revolution" 09/10 across the country and there's so much more to come this year...So I think I achieved a lot for some one who was predicted to end up working on the line in a factory sorting mushrooms (in your face Mr. Carrier advisor!! Dyslexics Rule KO!!) I am very happy with my lot, you have to take the rough with the smooth, then and only then can you say you have a Fabulous life!

What is your (Fabulous) motto?

DB: Well there are two I live by! "When your going through hell, Keep on going" (Winston Churchill) "We are all in the gutter, just some of us are looking at the stars" (Oscar Wilde)
