Hawksmoor House is a Cape Dutch country retreat located on a 220- hectare wine farm, Matjieskuil, near Stellenbosch in the Cape Winelands. Meticulously restored and beautifully decorated with exquisite antiques, it occupies a stunning location amidst vineyards overlooking Table Mountain, and enjoys spectacular sunsets.
A 25 minute drive away from the buzzing Cape Town centre, the estate is quiet and serene. The farm is home to horses, cows, porcupines, hawks, pelicans and countless other wildlife. If you love dirt roads, sunsets, wine by candlelight, an owl outside your window, and don't mind sharing the pool with the occasional disoriented frog, or getting a paw print from one of their overzealous dogs on your trousers, you have found the perfect place.
Hawksmoor House is the realized vision of four people: Mark, a property investor and wine lover; Simon, an antiques dealer with an incredible interior design style and a talent for preparing and hosting lavish dinner parties; Jonathan, a wildlife and adventure enthusiast with a corporate background in strategy and finance; and Maike, a travel trends and networking professional with a marketing and hotel management past. All of them share a passion for South Africa and a love of "the good things in life": understated luxury and tons of friends to enjoy it with. When they created Hawksmoor House, they did not want yet another polished hotel rather a country estate with a distinct home feel, where you can take your shoes off, let your hair down and unwind with a drink or two. It's a serene place to relax, take it slow and catch up on sleep. Have a swim, taste some wine, listen to jazz in front of the fireplace...
Hawksmoor House has 8 beautiful guest rooms in the manor house and in the garden cottage. The manor house contains a grand dining room; a drawing room with fireplace, an honesty bar; a small library with internet access and a farmhouse kitchen with AGA stove & direct access to an herb garden. The grounds are laid out to include a large lawn, reflecting pond, lavender beds; vegetable, rose and herb gardens, gorgeous wine cellar with fireplace, wine tasting room, and a swimming pool with a view of Table Mountain.
